Did Curiosity really kill the cat?
Hello!
I hope 2026 is off to a peaceful and promising start for you!
So we're back and ready to roll!
I’ve been participating in a weekly coaching circle these last few months and last week the topic was curiosity.
What’s the first thing that comes to your mind? Don’t overthink it.
Was it – “it killed the cat?”
One of my colleagues offered “curiosity is the way you engage with the world.” He went on to clarify that it helps you to make sense and learn more about your environment and its guidelines, i.e., water is wet and can be cold, warm or hot. Someone can tell you the difference and what you might prefer in certain situations. But the only way YOU know is by trying it out. The results of all those experiences make us who we are.
We also discussed that at points in our childhood, we may have been discouraged from begin curious because our parents wanted to protect us, maybe from water that was too hot to wash our hands or too cold to bathe in. So maybe that little spark of adventure or wonder got a little dimmer and we’ve carried that with us too.
And let’s be honest, 2025 may have dulled our shine a bit. Reasons are probably plentiful.
After our conversation, I concluded that it’s just like a muscle: Use It or Lose It. The less we try out new things or suppress the drive to explore, we create a pattern and a justification for not doing anything. The less we learn about the world and ourselves and the more opportunities we miss out on.
BUT…we’re lucky.
2026 is a rebuilding year. Lots of planets moving into new signs where they’ll be for 8-12 twelve years. So you’ve got time to find a rhythm.
We’ve got just about 4 weeks left to shed the last of the Year of Snake skin. Let go of what’s old, faded, worn, itchy, scratchy and possibly just so effen heavy and annoying to carry around anymore. Time to let that New You start to slowly emerge and adjust to its new body, mind and spirit. On February 17th, the Year of the Fire Horse begins. And you’ve got to be ready to ride.
The equine energy is here to take you wherever you want to go with a strong cadence and a courageous heart. It’s forward momentum all the way. Light, fast and bold.
So perhaps instead of wrestling with the same resolutions process again or the “should” list, what would it be like if we just committed to asking ourselves these questions throughout the year:
“What am I curious about?”
“What would be fun to learn, do or visit?”
“How can I explore more?”
“What is the complete opposite of what I would have done in this situation last year?”
Perhaps this is the year of rebuilding the curiosity muscle so it can support us on this new leg of our journey.
Blessings!
